Summer is an awesome season for home maintenance, you really can’t ask for better weather to get outside and complete your yearly to-do list to spruce up your home. Whether it’s a big project, like painting your home, or just a small one, like organizing or cleaning your garage, the perfect time to do them is during the summer. Here are a few things that may be on your summer home to-do list.
Update your paint
Summer is the perfect season to paint your home, whether you’re painting your entire exterior or just the trim. The warm, dry, predictable weather that summer has is perfect for painting because you’ll have a consistent temperature and little change in the humidity, which helps the paint dry faster.
Fix your fences
If your fences have been looking worse for wear, summer time is the best time to fix them up! Whether you need to repair a few boards, repaint, or completely replace it there is not a better time of the year than summer to work outside and get it done.
Organize your garage
You’ve probably spent time going through boxes and piles of things you’ve collected over time just to find that one beach chair or an umbrella to take with you on your day out. There is no better time to spend a day organizing your garage than during the summer. With the warm weather, you won’t be put out by cold temperatures, and you’ll thank yourself later when you can easily access your lawn mower or your bike repair kit.
Keep your lawn hydrated by setting up an irrigation system
If you hate spending time fussing with hoses and sprinklers, setting up an irrigation system might be the right choice for you. You can use a timer, so you can schedule the system to go off whenever is convenient for you – no more worrying about how your lawn is doing, you can just enjoy your beautiful yard with no fuss!
Clean your carpets and rugs
Since you’ll be spending a lot of time outside anyway, the summer is the perfect season to have your carpets cleaned. Just a few hours outside will allow a carpet cleaning agent to dry, so you can return to your home to a fresh, clean environment! Having your rugs cleaned is always a good idea too, especially if you store them during the summer. When you bring them back out, you can set them down and they’ll be ready to go!
Let your house breathe
During the rest of the year, you may not notice, but your crawl space can get musty. Take a day and open all of your basement windows or crawl space vents at the bottom of your home’s foundation and let in some fresh air. This will help that air circulate through your home and help to keep your home cool.
Let in fresh air with screens
Putting your screen doors in in place of glass ones or storm doors is a great way to let in natural, fresh air and is a great way to cool your home instead of using your air conditioning constantly! You are able to enjoy the warm weather even if you plan on staying inside, and you won’t have to worry about bugs getting in your home.
